ProtonicsTM utilizes a programmable resistance module that is built into both hinges of the orthosis. The knee flexion resistance initiates a co-activation of the muscles which can facilitate balanced muscular activity at the knee joint. The resistance can be increased or decreased as necessary. Depending on patient goals, a target resistance level is established and then adjusted incrementally to help reach those goals.
Active resistance treatment with the ProtonicsTM orthosis is an innovative method which may advance many challenging knee patients who lack proper muscle balance, neuromuscular control and/or strength across the knee joint. By providing an appropriate level of resistance to the knee during therapy and daily activities, ProtonicsTM can help patients restore their proper knee function, participate more fully in their therapy program and return to function sooner.
